If you photograph a beggar, I want you to see the anguish that reflects their view, in a steelworks I look for the symbol of strength and power in it. If you intend to portray a happy person, I want a smile of pure joy, not a smile for the camera. I can hardly express in words my feelings, my attitude towards photography. I do not do pictures for the sheer pleasure of it, but like many of the old masters of painting, I want to symbolize something.
